PELVIC VENOUS INSUFFICIENCY

  • “Pelvic venous insufficiency” or “pelvic congestion syndrome” is characterized by chronic, dull pelvic pain or pressure typically with a duration greater than 6 months. Symptoms are worsened with menses, prolonged standing, and activities that increase abdominal pressure. Patients with pelvic venous insufficiency experience retrograde or backward flow of blood in the ovarian and pelvic veins which essentially creates varicose veins inside the pelvis.
